Basic principles of Discordianism:

.

Although it is a recognized parodic religion, it is difficult to be able to express its set of beliefs in a concrete way, organized and detailed, since they are presented from disjointed fragments.

.

However, we can highlight that one of the main objectives of religion is to demonstrate in different aspects and constantly, the absurdity found in other religious dogmas.

.

In general, this religion recognizes discord and chaos as desirable elements and qualities, which are in contrast to most existing religions in which harmony and order are largely idealized. Thus, the representation of Discordianism is the goddess of Discord, in its Greek version, Eris.

Discordian myths

.

In the Principia Discordia there are three myths on which the main foundations of this religion are founded, these are:

.

First myth: it is a story about Thornley's enlightenment, in which it is believed that Eris appears to him in the form of a chimpanzee to talk to him and mention some confusing phrases, among them: Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle.

.

Second myth: in this the function of the Eris apple is related, as well as its inscription, which it will use to cause the Trojan War. This would be a living display of the power of Eris, the goddess of discord.

Third myth: it receives the name of "The Curse of Caragrís" , which maintains that Caragrís rants with anger at the disorder that reigned in the universe. Caragrís maintains that he is against the Serious Order. Later she found a large number of followers who play to take themselves much more seriously than life itself and, how she takes herself, until reaching the present time in which human beings are going to suffer precisely the Curse of Caragrís, due to to a spiritual and psychological imbalance full of feelings of fear and frustration.

The five commandments (the Pentavomito)

.

The Pentavomito is the set of the five sacred commandments of Discordianism. In them you can glimpse part of the philosophy of Discordianism,

  1. There is no more Goddess than The Goddess, and she is Your Goddess. There is no other Erisian Movement apart from The Erisian Movement, and it is the Erisian Movement. And in every Golden Apple Corporation lives a Golden Worm.

  2. A Discordian should always use the Official Discordian Document Numbering System.

  3. A Discordian, during the time of his First Enlightenment, has to go out alone and happily eat a hot dog on a Friday. This devout ceremony violates the popular paganisms of the day: Catholic Christian (do not eat meat on Fridays), Judaism and Muslim religion (do not eat pork), Hindu religion (do not eat beef), Buddhism (do not eat animal meat), and discordianism (not eating hot dog breads).

  4. A Discordian should not eat hot dog buns, for they were the comfort of the Goddess when she fought the original rejection.

  5. A Discordian is forbidden to believe what he reads, including the present five points.

.

Short description of Discordianism.

.

Within parodic religions, Discordianism is a religion that worships Eris or Éride, who in Greek mythology is the goddess of discord . This religion can have different versions depending on the area in which it is practiced and the culture, so its interpretations also vary.

.

Its foundation, located between 1958 and 1959 by Greg Hill, places it within the set of modern religions, whose main base is opposed to the philosophies and religions in which the apparent disorder that the universe is, is interpreted as a kind of manifestation coming from a hidden order in which only those who are initiated can observe.

.

Thus, for this religion, reality is pure , apparent chaos and order, given the mental activity of the human being.
